Children's Literature Grades PreK-6
"There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate's loot on Treasure Island" Walt Disney
"You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax. Go find a good book" Dr. Seuss
"The greatest gift is the passion of reading" Elizabeth Hardwick
If you are teaching literacy with Children's Literature, you have found the right page! You will find writing prompts and reader response pages for some of my favorite books. I am creating more all the time. If you have a favorite book, let me know and I can work on a literature theme pack for you. Just email me at MrsQuimbyReads@gmail.com to place your request.
In the meantime, look around this page to find many favorited books by many literacy teachers. These literature pages can be used individually, small groups, whole class or homeschoolers. They were created to enrich the reading experience. They include word study, graphic organizers, writing prompts and comprehension questions about the book. Check back as I will be adding more each month. Have a happy teaching day and model the enjoyment of reading. It can be challenging for today's students to immerse themselves in good literature with all the technology, games and videos, but good books still grab young readers. Good books teach us about the world and the world we wish to live in. I always tell my students that a good book makes you smarter or kinder and sometimes it takes some time to find a really good book. One good book experience leads to another! If students are engaged in reading, their reading achievement improves!
"So please, oh please, we beg, we pray, go throw your TV set away, and in it's place you can install, a lovely bookshelf on the wall" Roald Dahl
